| Introduction We've prepared something a bit new here at the Starship Phoenix in order to bring you special threads that are innovative and thought-provoking. I'm sure most of you are familar with the Playstation Forums, and you've probably heard of the Weekly Highlights , most importantly, Thread of the Week. So each week, the feature "Thread of the Week" will appear on these forums so that you can post your thoughts as a community. So without further ado, our first Gold Nugget Thread comes from Wade_VC, titled: "This game really sucks..or does it?" I cannot tell you how many times I have seen the phrase "This game sucks"...and how many people believe it 100%. People have to remember that everyone here has different likes and dislikes, and just because a poster thinks a certain game or games are lousy does not make it a truism or a fact. There are games that I enjoy that have gotten terrible reviews from gaming sites and other players; just as there are some games that people rave about that I think are lousy. Some of you may be thinking "Yeah...so?" What I am getting at is that far too many people read a positive (or negative) review of a game or someone's personal opinion and either decide to purchase or pass on a game based solely on what they read someone else's opinion of it is. The unfortunate fact with that is far too many gamers end up purchasing games they don't like or passing on ones they could have enjoyed. Now, that isn't to say that what a poster says about a game is entirely untrue, but one has to remember that everyone has different tastes, likes & dislikes, and should take someone else's review or criticism (or praise) of a game as only a part of the overall picture. I will often times read what players here have to say about a game..easily weed out those who are just here to hear themselves complain, are pure fanboys, or just trying to get a flame war going; and do some more digging to get a better overall idea of a particular game I am interested in. Just because someone says "This game sucks", remember, it is their personal opinion of the game, which may or may not be the same as your opinion of the game. Bottom line is that you should always trust your own instincts and likes/dislikes before dismissing a game or going right out and purchasing it based on what anyone else thinks of it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -So SP, what do you think about the opinions of others regarding games? -Do you agree with the opinions of other gamers, or do you find yourself enjoying a game people apparantly find boring or dumb more than often? -Do you visit videogame reviewing sites (such as IGN, Gamespot)? If so, how often have they come close to your opinion? -Does someone else's opinion of a game matter to you?

| -So SP, what do you think about the opinions of others regarding games? Well Everyone has the right to voice an opinion. Sometimes they are not eh best opinions or ways of saying it. -Do you agree with the opinions of other gamers, or do you find yourself enjoying a game people apparantly find boring or dumb more than often? Well I am on my own boat with this one. If I read the "HATE" before I get then game I'll enjoy it less. But if I don't read it I seem to enjoy games more. -Do you visit videogame reviewing sites (such as IGN, Gamespot)? If so, how often have they come close to your opinion? Well not vary offen because I disagree most of the time. -Does someone else's opinion of a game matter to you? Nope.

| So SP, what do you think about the opinions of others regarding games? Same as Dark_gamer -Do you agree with the opinions of other gamers, or do you find yourself enjoying a game people apparantly find boring or dumb more than often? Depending on the situation. -Do you visit videogame reviewing sites (such as IGN, Gamespot)? If so, how often have they come close to your opinion? Only one site deserves my attention http://www.joker.si/ Ps: don't even try to read it because you wont understand it -Does someone else's opinion of a game matter to you? No.

| -So SP, what do you think about the opinions of others regarding games? Same as D__G. -Do you agree with the opinions of other gamers, or do you find yourself enjoying a game people apparantly find boring or dumb more than often? I don't really know, to be quite honest. -Do you visit videogame reviewing sites (such as IGN, Gamespot)? If so, how often have they come close to your opinion? Yes. I constantly visit IGN (although, recently, it's just been for news and announcements and other stuff like that). And IGN is usually pretty close to my opinion. -Does someone else's opinion of a game matter to you? It depends. Is the opinion bashing one of my favorite games? If so, then I usually get kinda mad. But if you're asking if it affects my opinion, then, no it doesn't.

| Quote (Ratchet_Co) -Does someone else's opinion of a game matter to you? The opinions of competent, tasteful people matter to me. Quote -Do you visit videogame reviewing sites (such as IGN, Gamespot)? No. My game-based decisions are usually based on a consensus of the opinions of other people like myself opposed to throwbacks that write out biased reviews.
well bless my soul you're a lonely soul because you won't let go of anything you hold

| I just realized I never put my own opinion . By the way, thanks guys for your input . -So SP, what do you think about the opinions of others regarding games? I think everyone has a right to provide an opinion on a game. -Do you agree with the opinions of other gamers, or do you find yourself enjoying a game people apparantly find boring or dumb more than often? I find myself agreeing with a lot of opinions, but of course there is always a case where I won't agree. For example the opinion that the newer Spyro games are better than the old ones. -Do you visit videogame reviewing sites (such as IGN, Gamespot)? If so, how often have they come close to your opinion? I often visit IGN for reviews, not always because of the score they give but because they often summeraize a game very well, which is important. -Does someone else's opinion of a game matter to you? I hold the opinions of several people higher than others so yes, someone else's opinion of a game does matter to me.
